once upon a time there was a little girl	روزگاري دخترك زيبايي بود
as beautiful and charming as a pearl	به زيبايي و فريبايي يك مرواريد
in her neighborhood there was another child	در همسايگي او دخترك ديگري بود
but so ugly that was used to be riled	اما بقدري زشت كه موجب ناراحتي مي شد
the two girls grew up anyhow	در هر صورت هر دو دختر بزرگ شدند
one pretty and nice another I will tell you how	يكي زيبا و قشنگ و ديگري را خواهم گفت كه چگونه
the first one an angel so to speak	اولي چو گويي همانند فرشته اي
but the latter on the ugliness peak	اما دومي در اوج زشتي
one won many lad's hearts in the town	اولي قلب بسياري از پسرك هاي شهر را ربوده بود
another more akin to a circus clown	و ديگري بيشتر شبيه دلقك سيرك بود
one had blue eyes and blond hair	اولي چشمان آبي و موي بور داشت
another with a monkey you could compare	و دومي را مي توانستيد با ميمون مقايسه كنيد
one was svelte and sylphlike	اولي باريك اندام و زيبا بود
another had a long neck as a pike	و دومي مانند نيزه (اردك) گردني دراز داشت
one was the belle for moneymen	اولي دلارام سرمايه داران بود
another wasted her life cleaning a pen	و دومي عمر خود را صرف تمييز كردن اصطبل مي كرد
the pretty girl married a goldsmith	دختر زيبا با يك مرد زرگر ازدواج كرد
like an imaginary enchanting myth	مانند افسانه ي فريبنده ي خيالي
but the ugly one who could not bear	اما دختر زشت دومي كه نمي توانست تحمل كند
another heart rending nightmare	كابوس جانسوز ديگري را
she went to the church and entered the belfry	به كليسا رفت و وارد برج ناقوس كليسا شد
her life was in a dungeon and she wanted to be free	زندگيش در سياهچال بود و او مي خواست كه خود را برهاند
she threw herself down to the yard	او خودش را به پايين پرت كرد
prognosticating suicide was not very hard	پيش بيني خودكشي براي او خيلي سخت نبود
at the eleventh hour she did bawl	در لحظه آخر عمر او با صداي بلند داد زد
that the weakest goes to the wall	كه انسان بيچاره هميشه محكوم به شكست است (هر چي سنگه مال پاي لنگه)
